However you decide to write your message, here are some tips for good English OOO messages:<br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>A lot of readers are really only interested in when you will return, so it\u2019s a good idea to include this in the subject of your email, e.g. Back on 2 May 2022. Don\u2019t write 01.05.2022 as this is 5 January in US English \u2026<\/li><li>If you write, \u201cI am out of the office until 2 May\u201d, this means you will be back on 2 May which is a day earlier than the German version, which I\u2019m sure you wouldn\u2019t mean!<\/li><li>You don\u2019t need to start it with \u201cDear (Name)\u201d. It\u2019s absolutely fine to write \u201cThank you for your message\u201d which nicely includes formal and informal recipients&nbsp;<\/li><li>Remember your Ps and Qs (an English idiom for \u201cmind your language\u201d) and keep it clear and polite \u2013 you don\u2019t know who will be reading it<\/li><li>Be careful about being amusing, not everyone has the same sense of humour. I recently read, \u201cI am currently out of the office and probably chilling on the beach. Enjoy your working week\u201d which not everyone wants to read I\u2019m sure.<\/li><li>And finally, be careful about writing, \u201c I\u2019ll get back to you as soon as possible after I return\u201d as this could take quite a few days if your inbox holds hundreds of unread emsils &nbsp;\u2026<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is an example of quite a nice one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThank you for your email. I am currently out of the office and will return on [return date]. I will be happy to reply to your message when I return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you need assistance in the meantime, please contact [name of colleague + their job title] at [email, phone, etc.].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clear, precise and polite.
